Rhinoplasty or nose surgery

Rhinoplasty or nose surgery

Rhinoplasty or cosmetic nose surgery aims to correct and amend the relief of the nasal pyramid and thus improve the appearance of the nose to align it with the facial features.

This technique can either remove an aesthetic embarrassment or beautify and clear faults in bone and cartilage structure or solve congenital or respiratory problems. Main reasons for rhinoplasty are generally an unsightly bump or a sharp edge or a long considered too broad nose.

Who is it addressed to?

Suitable for both women and men, this intervention can halt moderate or major aesthetic discomforts.

Starting from the age of 16 or 17, when bone growth has reached maturity, any person wishing to have a rhinoplasty may do so.

Procedure

Nose surgery performed by Dr. Mohamed Guessous, is a procedure that lasts about an hour and is performed under local anesthesia associated with intravenous tranquilizers.

It is accomplished in several steps:

First the incisions are made inside the nostrils, sometimes also between the nostrils, in both cases the scars are invisible.
Then from these incisions, the skin is peeled off and the surgeon performs modifications as required, namely:

  • Reduce a bony bump with a grater
  • Correct a deviated septum
  • Refine a very broad nose
  • Cut a very long nose
  • Raise a drooping tip
  • Etc.

After making the necessary changes, the skin is repositioned and secured with a very thin absorbable suture. The skin is elastic, it will then adapt to the new remodeled shape.

Once the procedure is completed, locks are placed in the nostrils to help healing and prevent bleeding and finally to maintain the new structure, a metal splint is placed on the nose.

Postoperative effects

Rhinoplasty is a painless procedure however it is somehow unpleasant, respiratory discomfort is felt during the first two days because of the locks placed in the nostrils, they will be removed on the second day.

Following the surgery, some bruise may appear on the eyelids and a slight swelling of the cheeks and nose can be seen, but these inconveniences will quickly disappear.

Around the 7th day, the metal splint is removed, and discomforts such as bruises and swelling will be less visible.

A week after rhinoplasty, normal social activity is possible without excessive efforts and violent sports.

Gradually the result can be significant and the final result will be visible after few months.

Length of stay

Being performed under local anesthesia, an overnight stay at the clinic is recommended.
